Social and Environmental Development

Pluspetrol

Pluspetrol is strongly committed to ensure that all of its operations are conducted in harmony with the environment. The Company understands the environmental and social complexity of the region, this is why environmental and social management was considered a key aspect when defining alternative designs and operation techniques for the Camisea project.

Since the region is known for its high biological diversity, specific environmental management tools were designed, including management measures aimed at minimizing intervention and implementing participatory environmental programs that are sustainable over time.

PROGRAMS

Biodiversity Monitoring Program (BMP)

The PMB is a long-term, independent scientific program that began in 2005 and confirms the high standards with which Camisea's operation is carried out in the Lower Urubamba.

This program consists of permanent monitoring of water, air, and soil in order to guarantee the effectiveness of the care measures implemented in Camisea.

This monitoring uses and develops innovative approaches that allow it to address different scales (landscape, communities, and species) and at the same time monitor the importance of ecosystem services for native communities. The information generated annually is disseminated to stakeholders.

Coastal Marine Monitoring Program (PMC)

Since 2003, the PMC has been evaluating the behavior and quality of life of marine and terrestrial species in Paracas Bay. As part of this program, in 2021, more than 14.5 million bird individuals grouped into 148 species were recorded, in addition to sea lions, insects, phytoplankton, and a diversity of flora.

Community Environmental Monitoring Program of the Lower Urubamba (PMAC-BU)

The PMAC-BU is the result of a participatory process developed between Pluspetrol and the native communities that live in the area of influence of Camisea in the Lower Urubamba. This program has been developed since 2003 with the objective of verifying, by the population, compliance with the environmental commitments assumed by the project and constituting a permanent channel of dialogue with the local population.
