Megantoni: Families from the native community of Cashiriari, in Peru, will have electricity 24 hours a day

To date, electrical energy service is provided through generating equipment that runs on diesel.

The implementation was achieved through an agreement entered into with Pluspetrol, which has provided the facilities for the community to take energy from the 33 Kv line used by the company for its operation in Camisea.

As of April 20, the life of the native community of Cashiriari, located in the district of Megantoni (La Convencion, Cusco), in Peru, experiences a significant change. Thanks to an agreement with the Camisea Consortium, operated by Pluspetrol, the inhabitants of this community will benefit from a continuous supply of electrical energy 24 hours a day, a significant change compared to the previous system based on diesel generators that only provided electricity for limited periods.

The implementation of this electrical system was the result of joint work between Pluspetrol and the leaders of the Cashiriari community. To carry out this project, Pluspetrol allowed the community to connect to a 33 Kv line that the company uses for its operational activities. In addition, it provided logistics facilities for the river and air transportation that are necessary during the implementation stage in charge of the community. These facilities will remain during the operation of the system.

By being able to access electricity continuously, not only will the daily life quality of Cashiriari inhabitants be improved, offering them greater safety through public lighting during the night and early morning, but it will also facilitate better food preservation thanks to the possibility of keeping refrigeration equipment operational, without interruptions.

The benefits of the electricity project will extend to the entire community, especially children and teenagers, who will now be able to study and do their homework under adequate and constant light. Additionally, small local shops, such as sawmills, bakeries and wineries, which previously did not operate at night due to energy limitations, will now be able to extend their service hours, thus boosting the local economy.

With this support, the Camisea Consortium reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and the continuous improvement of living conditions in the native communities of the region.
