On December 15th, 2016, the President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and the Minister of the Environment, Elsa Galarza, presented Pluspetrol with the “Antonio Brack Egg” National Environmental Award, in two categories: Biodiversity Management and Defense of the Sea of Grau.
These awards are presented each year in recognition of goodenvironmental practices, which become sustainability benchmarks and contribute to a better use of natural resources.
In the category of Biodiversity Management, Pluspetrol, operator of the Camisea Consortium, received a distinction for its management of the Monitoring Biodiversity Program (PMB), in Bajo Urubamba, Cusco. This Program, integrated by over 185 national and foreign scientists and native co-researchers, has been supporting the Camisea project for the last 10 years, to ensure the protection and conservation of biodiversity of the project’s influence area.
The area under monitoring comprises 270 thousand hectares, with an active participation of seven native communities of the Bajo Urubamba area and 17 Matsiguengas families. The greatest contribution of the project is the extensive knowledge acquis on biodiversity, its attention to conservation and evolution, and the discovery of new species.
